It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Louise Huber on January 31, 2024
Pearl Louise Huber, age 91, of Burns Harbor, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. She was born on February 9, 1932, in Gary, Indiana, to George and Emma
(Benner) Axtell.
Louise is survived by her children, Debra (Jack) McGraw, Christine (David) Messier, David (Charlene) Smith, James (Joanna) Smith, Raymond (Sabrina) Huber; many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Thomas Axtell and Emma Matilda Axtell; first husband, Harold Shellie Smith; second husband, William Mathias Huber; sisters,
Kathryn Wahl and Mary Haire; and son, Thomas Smith.
Louise graduated from Portage High School Class of 1949, she attended Ball State Teachers College earning her Masters in Education. She was a teacher for Duneland Schools and Portage Schools for 42 years. She was active in 4H and took baked goods to the State Fair. Louise previously lived in Bangor, Michigan and volunteered there at South Haven Hospital. She loved crossword and jigsaw puzzles,
gardening, she was a ping pong champion and an avid Cubs fan. Louise was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, Indiana.
A Memorial Service for Louise will be held on Saturday, February 10th at 11:00 am directly at Christ Lutheran Church, 2610 N. Campbell St., Valparaiso, Indiana 46383. In lieu of flowers the family requests if anyone would like to send plants that can be planted in her memory or make a donation
