Kenneth E. Callaway III, age 55, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away following his courageous battle with glioblastoma on Saturday, December 14, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. He was born on November 18, 1969, in Gary, Indiana, to Kenneth and Delores (Axelson) Callaway Jr.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Angela (Kmiec) Callaway of Chesterton; daughter,
Olivia E. Callaway; son, Kenneth E. Callaway IV; his mother, Delores Callaway; three sisters, Ruth (Randy) Nidelchoff, Susan (Casey Jr.) Rosiecki, Colleen (Dan) Strauss; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth E. Callaway Jr.
Ken graduated from Chesterton High School, class of 1988, and went to Ball State and received his Bachelor of Arts in Education and History. He
went on to teach for Michigan City Area Schools for over 25 years, most recently at Barker Middle School. Ken enjoyed history, particularly the Civil War era, and was a re-enactor with Company A, 19th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, part of the famed Iron Brigade. He enjoyed grilling and smoking for family and friends and was a very good cook. Ken enjoyed reading and could usually be found with a book and his pipe.
Funeral Ceremony will be held on
Monday, December 23, 2024, at 10:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church, 2610 N Campbell St, Valparaiso, IN 46385 with Pastor Erica Gibson-Even officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304.
