News for the week of October 5, 2025
Adult Forum Series: Great Cloud of Witnesses:  Stories of Faith and Resilience Location: Fellowship Hall   October 12 Anna Stewart and Sam Graber will lead us in the first two sessions of the series  Great Cloud of Witnesses: Stories of Faith and Resilience.   Anna and Sam discuss the importance of listening to the stories of those from the margins who have much to teach about faith and resilience.    Sam Graber is the Associate Professor of Humanities and Literature in Christ College at Valparaiso University.  His field of study is nineteenth-century literature and culture, the
American Civil War, transatlantic studies, memory studies, and religion.  Anna Stewart is the Director of the Institute for Leadership and Service, in the Division of Calling and Spiritual Life at Valparaiso University. Through this role, she has the privilege of working with an amazing team – including CLC’s own Kat Peters and Kristin Lewis – to help develop and collaborate on programming around reflective vocational exploration and discerning the ways we are called to lead and
serve.

All are welcome to attend We Make Indiana housing update and next steps
on      October 28th 6:30-8:00 at Christ Lutheran Church.    In the last month, over 115 neighbors joined us for 7 housing forums—sharing stories, exploring how zoning shapes our communities, and asking: Who gets to live here?
On Tuesday, Oct. 28th we're coming together to reflect on what we’ve learned, hear updates on zoning reform in Valparaiso, and take the next step: exploring a statewide housing campaign by meeting with our state legislators this fall. Let’s turn momentum
into action. Please join us!

Christ Lutheran Church offers a Grief Support Group every other week on Wednesdays from 9:30 - 11 am in the Conference Room. (please add room #). The group serves adults who have experienced a loss of a spouse,
parent, child, friend, or neighbor.    Current grief group members state these benefits of attending:   ~it's a confidential and "safe" place to talk about your journey of grief of the loss of your loved one   ~It lets you know that you are not alone as you meet others
who understand what you are going through   ~we share memories, tears and even laughs   ~some days you can just listen to others rather than speaking   Come when you can. Coffee and Kleenex available.    The group is facilitated by Cheryl Slack, a Stephen Minister. You may contact her at 219-241-0677 or one of the pastors if you have any questions.   Upcoming dates are October 15th, and 29th.
October 2025  CLC Mission Endowment Fund Corner     “Give it your all.” You’ve probably heard that from a coach, mentor or loved one sometime in your life. But when it comes to planning your estate, you don’t have to take an all-or-nothing approach.   You may have many people and causes you love—and wonder how you can possibly take care of them all
after you’re gone. Here’s the solution: Harness the power of percentages and divide your “estate pie” so everyone and everything you care about gets a slice.   Here’s how: 1. Take inventory of your estate. It’s likely larger than you think. Assets such as real  estate, life
insurance, and investment and retirement accounts can quickly add up. 2. Determine which people and causes you’d like to benefit and in what percentages. You  can provide for loved ones and still make a big difference with 10%, 5%—even 1%.
You  don’t need a fortune to make an impact. 3. Create or update your will or update your beneficiaries to align with your  percentages. Contact your estate planning attorney or use an online planning tool for your  will. Adding
or changing beneficiaries for accounts such as IRAs or life insurance is as  simple as filling out a paper or online form.   One more advantage of giving percentages of your estate: Your gift automatically adjusts in proportion to the size of your estate. That means that each beneficiary’s share will remain aligned with your intentions no matter what.   We’re Here for You Scan our QR code to contact your regional
ELCA gift planner for a no-obligation discussion about creating a legacy that will share God’s grace and the love of Christ for years to come.
Lutheran World Relief School Kits   Thank you!   Thanks to your generosity, we have exceeded our goal!  You have provided all the supplies that we need for 140 Lutheran World Relief School Kits to serve God’s people throughout the
world.  The Sunday School youth assembled and packed the kits during class last Sunday, and we are ready for the ingathering on October 18th. Thank you again for your support for this important ministry.
CLC Social Ministry and Mission   Social Ministry Emphasis for October.  The focus this month is to provide volunteer time and monetary support for Lutheran World Relief  www.lwr.org and ELCA World Hunger/Disaster
Response www.elca.org/hunger and www.elca.org/disaster   Lutheran World Relief is affirming God’s love for all people, working
with Lutherans and partners around the world to end poverty, injustice, and human suffering.  LWR vision is to be empowered by God’s unconditional love in Jesus Christ, envisioning a world in which each person, every community and all generations live in justice, dignity, and peace.  Also, here is a volunteer opportunity in October: helping with the annual northern Indiana Lutheran congregations in-gathering collection day at CLC (Sat. afternoon Oct. 18, 2-5pm) - loading a
semi-truckload of items to be delivered to LWR for shipment overseas.  Many items come from CLC:  quilts and baby/fabric/personal/school kits.  If you would like to volunteer to help, please contact Becky Fry at justplainbecky@gmail.com    ELCA World Hunger/Disaster Response two hunger/disaster response programs (plus Lutheran World Relief) work closely
together on world humanitarian issues, providing relief and hunger assistance, as well as providing opportunities for hunger education and advocacy activities.  79% of funds are used around the world, 12% in the U.S., and 9% for education and advocacy.    Help achieve our goal of $2500 in October (over and above giving combined with CLC’s $1200 budgeted amount).  By achieving our goal CLC will help Luth. World Relief and ELCA Hunger/Disaster Relief continue
mutual support and service activities that are crucial to effective ministry.  Use your weekly worship giving mailed in check to CLC and indicate “LWR/ELCA Hunger” or contribute through Subsplash on the CLC website https://clcvalpo.org via the “Give” button and choose Monthly Social Ministry
Emphasis.  Thank you to members for supporting monthly social ministry emphases.
