Dear friends in Christ,
For Christians, Palm Sunday is more than a liturgical moment.
When Jesus and his followers processed into Jerusalem, it was a counter demonstration. While Pilate and Roman soldiers entered the city on war horses to display imperial power during Passover, Jesus rode in on a donkey. One procession proclaimed domination and control. The other proclaimed humility, justice, and God’s reign of liberation. Jesus challenged the authority of his day and inspired people with a different vision for
living together.
This year, we are invited to step into that story.
Across St. Joseph and Porter Counties, and alongside Christians across the country, congregations will gather for public witness actions.
On Sunday, March 29 at 2:00pm, congregations across Porter County will gather for a Palm Sunday Action, a prayerful public procession rooted in scripture, music, and testimony. We will begin at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, process together with palm branches to the courthouse, and reflect on Jesus’ teachings while lifting
up stories of how members of our community are being impacted by current policy changes. In doing so, we will bear witness to the sacred dignity of every person. After a brief program, we will return to Trinity for fellowship and light refreshments.
This gathering will be centered in prayer,
scripture, music, and testimony. We invite Christians across our community to participate as a visible sign of our shared faith and commitment to the common good.
At a time when families face food insecurity, neighbors struggle to access healthcare, and immigrants experience fear and
exclusion, we believe it is faithful to show up visibly and peacefully. This is not a protest. It is a liturgical act. A public witness. A declaration that our faith calls us to love in public.
We invite you to join us in walking the path of Christ - humble, courageous, and grounded in hope.
