Holy Week at Christ Lutheran
Livestream & In-person worship, Resources for families and children
Holy Week draws us deeply into the story of Jesus' deep love and sacrifice, and into celebrating the truth that God's mercy and life have the last word! With the improvement in Coronavirus infection rates, worship in Holy Week will be hybrid, with some
in-person opportunities supplementing live-streamed worship. Please note: registration is required for all in-person services; see below for more information.
Palm Sunday – March 28
- Live-streamed Palm Sunday worship at 9am: https://youtu.be/SuEX3hkgK7M
- In-person worship at 10:30am:
- Families are invited to join for a craft activity after in-person worship, gathering outdoors near the back turnaround at 11:15am.
Maundy Thursday – April 1
- Maundy Thursday worship will be live-streamed at 7pm: https://youtu.be/RfrQnW9B1zg
- Note that you are invited to have a small bowl of water available during the service – and that we are gathering the community’s prayers of lament, grief, and worry for inclusion in this special service. Please email pastorerica@clcvalpo.org with your prayers.
Good Friday – April 2
- Good Friday worship will be live-streamed at 7pm: https://youtu.be/VSt1Az9YcjA
- Note that you are invited to have a cross with you for this service, something that you can hold (look on your walls or your jewelry box, perhaps?).

Sunday School this week will be meeting in-person at the back turnaround, at 11:30 (after the in-person Palm Sunday Worship). We’ll wave our palms, hear the story of Holy Week, and work on a craft to share with our home-bound members.
Join us on Easter for an Egg Hunt at 11:30 after the late in-person service! Registration isn’t required but would help us with our planning – register here: Easter Egg Hunt Registration
We need you! Last call for contributions to our Easter Dismissal from the kids (Record your child saying “Go in peace, share the
Good News! Alleluia!” and upload it at www.clcvalpo.org/uploader by April 1), and we could still use a few readers/storytellers for our Easter Vigil (sign up for one of the stories here: Easter Vigil Story Signup and upload at www.clcvalpo.org/uploader).

We will have the opportunity to be hosted by our sister congregation, Trinity Lutheran Church, for worship the Sunday after Easter (April 11). This will allow them to return the favor we offered earlier this year, and give our worship leaders -- pastors, musicians, bulletin-preparers, ushers, altar guild, and more -- the gift of a week to rest and simply be present into worship. Note: this means we will not have any in-person worship on that
Sunday.
More information including links, bulletin, and more will be in next week's worship email.

A Note about In-person worship
|
Please bear in mind:
- All in-person opportunities are dependent on continued positive developments in terms of infection rates, COVID metrics, and relevant guidance, and are subject to last-minute cancellation if necessary.
- If you feel in the least bit unwell, please stay home! Help us keep our beloved community safe.
- Masks are mandated, from the parking lot until we return to our cars.
- Hand sanitizer is available and encouraged throughout the building.
- We will not use bulletins, hymnals, nor pass offering plates.
- We continue to avoid congregational singing and unison, supported speech
- Communion distribution has been adjusted to reduce the risks of contact
- Our HVAC system will run throughout our service with outside air intake maximized to increase ventilation. We have installed UV sterilization filters in the Sanctuary and Church Hall systems to provide additional mitigation.
- Note: All upcoming CLC registrations are always available at https://clcvalpo.churchcenter.com/registrations

While we keep ourselves separate to steward each others' health, we
are including Holy Communion during our livestream on Sundays. Our goal is to experience Communion together, even while apart; immediate, not something available as a recording that someone might use later; organic, not something prepackaged or purchased; safe and accessible, so people don't need to travel/have contact with others to pick things up. Please note: extraordinary times like these require us to depart from our usual practices. We all
eagerly look forward to the time when we can leave these extraordinary measures behind and return to safely gathering in person on Sundays, as is our norm.
Here's what you need to prepare in advance: Before Sunday's service, choose a plate and cup that you will use for Communion in your space. Find some bread (whatever kind works for you; even a cracker can do in a pinch) and, if you have it, grape juice or wine. Note that if you don't have grape juice or wine, that's perfectly OK; our theology teaches that receiving Christ in one element (i.e. just bread or just wine) is more than sufficient! You can leave an empty cup ready as a sign of
that overabundance of blessing. We also recommend having a candle handy, which you can light throughout the Sunday service, if that is safe for you, to help create a worshipful space.
