Worship for Holy Week & Easter
Livestream & In-person worship with resources for families and children
Holy Week draws us deeply into the story of Jesus' deep love and sacrifice, and into celebrating the truth that God's mercy and life have the last word! With the improvement in Coronavirus infection rates, worship in Holy Week will be hybrid, with some
in-person opportunities supplementing live-streamed worship. Please note: registration is required for all in-person services; see below for more information.
Maundy Thursday – April 1
- Maundy Thursday worship will be live-streamed at 7pm: https://youtu.be/RfrQnW9B1zg
- Note that you are invited to have a small bowl of water available during the service – and that we are gathering the community’s prayers of lament, grief, and worry for inclusion in this special service. Please email pastorerica@clcvalpo.org with your prayers.
- For children and parents:
- For our little ones who aren’t up so late, here’s a fun video – watch it with them, and then narrate it together (the words are gibberish – look at Mark 14:22-51 for the story)!
Good Friday – April 2
- Good Friday worship will be live-streamed at 7pm: https://youtu.be/VSt1Az9YcjA
- Note that you are invited to have a cross with you for this service, something that you can hold (look on your walls or your jewelry box, perhaps?).
- For children and parents:
- For our little ones who aren’t up so late, here’s a fun video – watch it with them, and then narrate it together (the words are gibberish – look at Mark chapter 15 for the story)!
Easter Vigil – Saturday April 3
Easter Sunday – April 4
- Live-streamed Easter festival worship at 9am: https://youtu.be/H98zz27eyt8
- In-person Easter worship will be at both 8am and 10:30am
- Register here for 8am
- Because our capacity is limited, our 10:30 service is now full. Please join us for our livestream festival worship at 9:00.
- Bulletin for both in-person services is available here: Easter In-person April 4
- For children and parents:
- Help your little ones tell the story of Easter with this video! (Look at Mark 16 and John 20 for different versions of the story.)
- Young people are invited to an Easter Egg Hunt at 11:30am
Looking ahead: April 11, no in-person worship option

Just as we had the chance to host our siblings at Trinity Lutheran Church earlier this year, they have offered to host us in worship April 11, giving our worship preparation team (altar guild, ushers, musicians, bulletin preparation, and pastors) a much-needed rest. Please note: there will be no in-person worship option that day. As we receive links and bulletin info from the team at Trinity, they will be emailed
and updated on our web and Facebook pages.

- All in-person opportunities are dependent on continued positive developments in terms of infection rates, COVID metrics, and relevant guidance, and are subject to last-minute cancellation if necessary.
- Pre-registration is required.
- If you feel in the least bit unwell, please stay home! Help us keep our beloved community safe.
- Masks are mandated, from the parking lot until we return to our cars.
- Hand sanitizer is available and encouraged throughout the building.
- We will not use bulletins, hymnals, nor pass offering plates.
- We continue to avoid congregational singing and unison, supported speech
- Communion distribution has been adjusted to reduce the risks of contact
- Our HVAC system will run throughout our service with outside air intake maximized to increase ventilation. We have installed UV sterilization filters in the Sanctuary and Church Hall systems to provide additional mitigation.
- Note: All upcoming CLC registrations are always available at https://clcvalpo.churchcenter.com/registrations

While we keep ourselves separate to steward each others' health, we
are including Holy Communion during our livestream on Sundays. Our goal is to experience Communion together, even while apart; immediate, not something available as a recording that someone might use later; organic, not something prepackaged or purchased; safe and accessible, so people don't need to travel/have contact with others to pick things up. Please note: extraordinary times like these require us to depart from our usual practices. We all
eagerly look forward to the time when we can leave these extraordinary measures behind and return to safely gathering in person on Sundays, as is our norm.
Here's what you need to prepare in advance: Before Sunday's service, choose a plate and cup that you will use for Communion in your space. Find some bread (whatever kind works for you; even a cracker can do in a pinch) and, if you have it, grape juice or wine. Note that if you don't have grape juice or wine, that's perfectly OK; our theology teaches that receiving Christ in one element (i.e. just bread or just wine) is more than sufficient! You can leave an empty cup ready as a sign of
that overabundance of blessing. We also recommend having a candle handy, which you can light throughout the Sunday service, if that is safe for you, to help create a worshipful space.
