Robert Schumann (1810 – 1856), was a German composer and pianist of the Romantic Era. Born is Zwickau in the kingdom of Saxony (Germany), he began to compose music before the age
of seven. His dream was to become a piano virtuoso, but a hand injury ended that dream. In 1840 he married Clara Wieck a pianist and musical prodigy. At Clara’s urging, Robert began to write orchestral works. Altogether, he composed one opera, four symphonies, and many choral and chamber works. Robert and Clara also maintained a close friendship with the German composer Johannes Brahms.
