This Church changes lives!

News for the week of 8/22/2021
Updates to our COVID
planning
Porter County is again seeing a resurgence in infection (positivity) rates and cases, with the spread of the Delta variant of
particular concern. As a result of these developments, we are again modifying our in-person worship protocols:
- We strongly recommend wearing masks for those who are fully vaccinated.
- For those who are not yet vaccinated, masks are required while in the building, for their own and others'
protection.
- We continue our other, on-going COVID precautions (distancing, limiting contact, limiting singing).
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
August 28: All-Church End-of-Summer and Rally Picnic
Come gather in the church backyard for a time of food and fun at 4pm on August 28. We’ll be grilling and provide dinner; bring some camp
chairs or a blanket, any favorite lawn games, and cookies to share!
August 29: Confirmation Sunday! We hear our students’ Witness to the Church at 9:20am (in-person
and online), with a hybrid (both in-person and livestream) worship including Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation) at 10:30. We are adding an additional in-person service at 8:00.
Please note: since we expect a number of guests and family members from out of town, masks will be required of everyone during the 10:30 service. If you are a member of CLC and able, we invite you to consider attending the 8:00
in-person service to leave space for our guests, and join the Witness to the Church and Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation) via livestream later. Thank you!
September 5: We will have a
livestream worship at 9, with an in-person service at 10:30.
September 12: Sunday School begins at CLC
We're excited to be planning for Sunday School in the Fall, starting September 12. We'll gather at our traditional time of 9:20-10:20am.
Register Here: https://clcvalpo.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/902272
We're praising God for the chance to return to seeing one another in person and building the relationships that will nurture our faith as we
grow! Our CLC health policies expect all who have not received a Covid-19 vaccine to wear masks, which will include our children. Teachers will be masked as well.
Your registration will help us to plan, to prepare our teachers and our Sunday School spaces. Thank you!
(Children who will be 3yo by August 1, through those entering 4th Grade, are welcome to register for Sunday School. 5th-8th grades are
invited to join Fusion, our Middle School Youth program, which also meets at 9:20 on Sunday mornings.)
CLC Social Ministry and Mission

utheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) https://www.lirs.org has a vision that all migrants and refugees are protected, embraced and empowered in a world of just and welcoming communities. LIRS mission is witness to God’s love for all people, standing with and advocating for migrants and refugees, transforming communities through ministries of service and justice. For 80 years, LIRS has been a
champion for migrants and refugees from around the globe. A legacy of courageous and compassionate service has made a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of people who have sought safety and hope in America’s communities. LIRS history reflects American Lutherans’ deep immigrant roots and passionate commitment to welcoming newcomers, especially those who are most in need. In partnership with community-based legal and social service providers nationwide, LIRS has helped over 500,000
migrants and refugees rebuild their lives in America.
Lutheran Braille Workers (LBW) https://www.lbwinc.org has existed since 1943 to show the love of God to people with visual disabilities and to bring them into a growing relationship with God. LBW does this by engaging some 5,000 volunteers in over 150 Work Centers throughout the United States. Volunteers joyfully produce approximately 250,000 volumes a year of Braille and specialized Large Print Bibles and Christian literature. CLC is one of these Work Centers and is involved in making Braille books of the Bible for the blind. COVID-19 has limited what volunteers can do so far in 2020 but the Braille workers
resumed meeting on May 18th and have made 206 books thus far. During the pandemic the headquarters in Yucaipa, CA utilized the down time to reorganize the warehouse, get the new plate machine installed and running, and made audio books. While centers are currently challenged by mail restrictions to some countries, we have increased our monthly output. The prayers and financial support of Christ Lutheran are vital in continuing this ministry. New volunteers are always welcome and no experience is
needed. Monthly emphases gifts will go towards national LBW activities and to help with supplies for CLC’s Work Center.
Help achieve our goal of $2500 in August (over and above giving combined with CLC’s budgeted amount). By achieving our goal CLC will help LIRS and LBW continue mutual
support and service activities that are crucial to effective ministry. Use your weekly worship giving mailed in check to CLC and indicate “LIRS/LBM” or contribute through PushPay on the CLC website https://clcvalpo.org via the “Give” button and choose Monthly Social Ministry Emphasis. Thank you to members for supporting monthly social ministry emphases.

SCHOOL KITS
Starting a new school year is a great time to collect school supplies for Lutheran World Relief.
School Kits for Lutheran World Relief are an important lifeline for learners all around the world. As many areas return to normal this year after a long pandemic school year, our continued
efforts to bring relief to others are very important.
As you purchase school supplies for your children, think about choosing supplies for others. There is a box in the Gathering Space for donations, or you can purchase from an Amazon wish list
and choose to have the items delivered directly to the church. There are a variety of suggestions on the list, with some items in bulk. We will be collecting items through mid-October. The link to the Amazon wish list can be found by searching Amazon lists for "CLC School Kit," or by clicking the link below.
Amazon CLC School Kit wish
list
Thanks to your generosity, we only need the following supplies to complete 100 school kits:
70-sheet notebooks of wide- or college-ruled paper, approximately 8” x 10 ½” (LWR cannot use loose-leaf paper) – each school kit gets four
A 30-centimeter ruler, or one with 30 centimeters on one side and 12 inches on the other
Pencil sharpener
Blunt scissors (safety scissors with embedded steel blades work well)
Black or blue ballpoint pens (no gel ink) – each school kit gets five
A box of 16 or 24 crayons
Gathering supplies with your children as they begin a new school year is a great way to remind yourself and them that we need to continue to love our neighbors, near and far. It helps us all
remember that God’s love is everywhere! Thank you for your support!
Sandy & Dave Keammerer are always collecting the following items for Lutheran World Relief (LWR). Please check out garage and estate sales and drop off at the church.
