Updates to our COVID
planning
Porter County is again seeing a resurgence in infection (positivity) rates and cases, with the spread of the Delta variant of
particular concern. As a result of these developments, we are again modifying our in-person worship protocols:
- We strongly recommend wearing masks for those who are fully vaccinated.
- For those who are not yet vaccinated, masks are required while in the building, for their own and others'
protection.
- We continue our other, on-going COVID precautions (distancing, limiting contact, limiting singing).

With our return to having two services each Sunday, our Altar Guild members are in need of some additional help with the clean up of communion and altar ware after each service and especially after the
10:30 service on Sundays. This is a time commitment of perhaps 30 minutes, and our hope is that several people might sign up so your commitment might be once per month or less. If you’re able to help, please stop at the sacristy on the back wall of the sanctuary (between the sound booth and the main doors) and visit with those already serving to see what is involved.
Thanks so much for considering!

Compass offers the following free services for all ages: Adult English classes, Citizenship classes, K-12 tutoring, English learner preschool, Childcare, and soccer

66th Synod Endowment Fund - “Lutherans for Black Lives” https://www.facebook.com/66thSynod has the vision “. . . that they may have life and have it abundantly!” (John 10:10b) 66th Synod’s mission is to “to establish justice and equity” and build a fund that allows those from the dominant culture to contribute so that some of the damage done due to inequitable treatment of Black Leaders in society and the ELCA (because of systemic racism, white supremacy, and complacency) may be
repaired. A goal is to provide reparations to Black Leaders and Congregations of the ELCA especially as they study and retire. Examples are: excessive student loan burdens, Pastoral calls to communities that are unable to pay a living wage, not being paid what they are worth or comparable to white leaders, and low pension contributions (necessary to work well past 65 years of age). The Fund is hosted by Immanuel Lutheran Church (ELCA), Seattle, http://immanuelseattle.org. CLC’s connection is
Rev. Angela Shannon of All Saints Lutheran Church, Bowie,
MD, who serves on the Board of this nonprofit, has
degrees from V.U. and LSTC (Chicago), grew up and was ordained in Gary (Lutheran Parish), and has served congregations in the ELCA I-K Synod.
Help achieve our goal of $2500 in September (over and above giving combined
with CLC’s $1200 budgeted amount). By achieving our goal CLC will help Compass and 66th Synod Fund continue mutual support and service activities that are crucial to effective ministry. Use your weekly worship giving mailed in check to CLC and indicate
“Compass/66thSynod” or contribute through PushPay on the CLC website https://clcvalpo.org via the “Give” button and
choose Monthly Social Ministry Emphasis. Thank you to members for supporting monthly social ministry emphases.

School Kits for Lutheran World Relief
Thanks to your generosity, our school kit collection for Lutheran World Relief is close to reaching its goal. We are overwhelmed with your contribution of pencils and erasers, and only
need the following supplies to complete 100 school kits:
70-sheet notebooks of wide- or college-ruled paper, (LWR cannot use loose-leaf paper) – each school kit gets four
A 30-centimeter ruler, or one with 30 centimeters on one side and 12 inches on the other
Pencil sharpener
Blunt scissors (safety scissors with embedded steel blades work well)
Black or blue ballpoint pens (no gel ink) – each school kit gets five
A box of 16 or 24 crayons
There is a box in the Gathering Space for donations, or you can purchase from an Amazon wish list and choose to have the items delivered directly to the church. We will be collecting items
through mid-October. The link to the Amazon wish list can be found by searching Amazon lists for "CLC School Kit," or by clicking the link below.
